SUMMARY:Migration and Local Authorities Course
DESCRIPTION:Worldwide more than 100 million people have been forced to leave their homes due to conflicts\, violence\, fear of persecution and human rights violations. There has been a remarkable increase in the number of people that have been displaced since 2012 with no sign of this trend reversing.  Among them\, there are 53 million people internally displaced\, 27 million refugees and almost 5 million asylum seekers. Local governments often find themselves at the forefront of the global response to human displacement and need to take measures before national governments develop and adopt response strategies and policies.  \n\n\n\nThis course explores how local authorities can develop innovative solutions to the complex challenges of displaced populations. We will discuss how different levels of government interact and specifically what role local governments and local institutions can play in dealing with forced migration. We will examine how they can provide housing and health care for migrants and refugees while maintaining the level of services for the host community. Furthermore\, we will discuss social cohesion between migrants and host communities\, especially in communities with a significant presence of migrants. The course will also focus on ways to secure the economic inclusion of refugees and migrants in the local context.   \n\n\n\nKey Information \n\n\n\nThe course is aimed at professionals working on local policies for refugees and migrants. Participants work for national\, regional and local government\, NGOs\, donor and development organisations\, and research institutes.  \n\n\n\nThe scheduling of the training will be established at a later time. \n\n\n\nThe course fee is € 3\,895*. This includes all training related costs as well as drinks and warm lunches during the training days. Group discounts are available if you participate with three or more colleagues. \n\n\n\nThis training takes place in The Hague\, Netherlands. \n\n\n\nAfter this course\, you will receive a professional certificate of completion from The Hague Academy for Local Governance. \n\n\n\n*Professionals working in local government or for local NGOs on the DAC list of ODA-recipient countries (OECD) may qualify for a reduced course fee. Contact us for details. \n\n\n\nLearning objectives\n\n\n\nThis course will help you: \n\n\n\nDescribe the roles and responsibilities of local authorities in managing large movements of refugees and migrants; \n\n\n\nDiscuss the linkages between local migration challenges\, the national context\, and global trends as well as legal and institutional frameworks; \n\n\n\nRecognise the importance of investing in social cohesion in all aspects of the local response to migration and displacement; \n\n\n\nDescribe different approaches to support local authorities in planning for migration and displacement; \n\n\n\nDevelop approaches to strengthen service delivery in an inclusive manner. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n	Find out more here This link opens in a new tab

SUMMARY:Urban Governance: Resilient and Smart Cities
DESCRIPTION:With the majority of today’s world population living in cities\, cities have become the engines of development and innovation. However\, this urban growth also means that cities are confronted with many of the world’s challenges: poverty and inequality\, migration\, natural disasters\, health crises and the consequences of climate change. Improving urban resilience by applying smart city solutions will enhance the development of inclusive cities capable of coping with present and future challenges. \n\n\n\nThis course discusses frameworks\, strategies and tools to strengthen cities’ resilience: their ability to absorb and recover from internal and external shock\, maintain their essential functions and adapt and thrive in the face of continual change. The course also covers smart city solutions by examining the role data and innovative technologies play in enhancing the efficiency of city systems and ultimately\, urban resilience. Furthermore\, we will explore how to build scenarios for inclusive cities and apply the principle of Leaving No One and No Place Behind\, and we will discuss the ethics of smart city projects\, paying attention to the unintended consequences of adopting smart solutions\, such as the digital divide\, cybersecurity and privacy concerns. Finally\, we will look into how ‘post-COVID’ cities can use technologies to reinforce physical interactions\, shared systems\, services and spaces\, and define the ‘blended cities’ of the future. \n\n\n\nKey Information\n\n\n\nThis course is intended for professionals involved in urban governance and development such as city planners and urban policy makers. Participants come from national\, regional and local governments\, NGOs\, knowledge institutes and donot and development organisations.  \n\n\n\nThe course will take place in The Hague from 09 June 2025 to 20 June 2025. The deadline for applications is . SUMMARY:Annual Summit 2025 - Democracy at the Crossroad - Cities Take Action
DESCRIPTION:The majority of all humans now live in cities. Cities are superdiverse\, multireligious\, multicultural. It is not easy to find a common identity\, to find the right ways to integrate and equity. \n\n\n\nThe only way is to consult\, discuss\, participate and work together. That is called “democracy” and “citizenship”. \n\n\n\nDemocracy is not only elections. It is a regime with respect and dignity\, with human rights at the center. Democracy respects difference\, gives rights to minorities and individuals\, supports emancipation and freedom. Democracy is not a system\, but a way of life based on tolerance and open minds. Freedom\, Equality and Solidarity: That is what it is about\, and the air of the city makes free! \n\n\n\nDemocratic cities are caring cities. Democratic cities search for empowerment through multilateral governance. Democratic cities are creative and put culture and the arts at the center of urban development. Cities in action deal with planetary challenges in a changing society looking for another imaginary and governance. That is the main challenge for mayors of the world. \n\n\n\n This link opens in a new tab

SUMMARY:Shaping Collective Action for the Humanitarian Emergency in Sudan
DESCRIPTION:About this event \n\n\n\nJoin us for a Critical Dialogue reflecting on the role of diverse actors engaged in complex humanitarian contexts\, in particular the urgent and deteriorating situation in Sudan. With decreasing foreign aid\, we have a moral imperative to find alternative solutions to counter the rampant abuse and famine while assessing and mitigating risks. The aim of this session is to examine and explore the current and potentially increasing role of Netherlands-based actors\, including the private sector\, in responding to humanitarian crises. Recently the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Foreign Trade & Development published a Policy Letter emphasizing private sector-led initiatives\, specifically in food security and economic resilience in Sudan. This session will reflect on the implications for cross-sectorial collaboration moving forward. \n\n\n\nThis Dialogue will examine risks and possibilities\, including how different kinds of investments and engagement can be coordinated and leveraged\, while elevating and building from the existing efforts on the ground in Sudan. The Critical Dialogue aims to engage the diversity of actors in The Hague\, a city which convenes a broad ecosystem of actors in peace\, justice and humanitarian aid. \n\n\n\nThe expected outcome of the dialogue is a number of timely and forward-thinking considerations on decision making in response to the situation in Sudan nationally from the perspective of the Netherlands\, and in turn influencing international actors. We will record the outcomes of this Dialogue and invite follow-on ideas and engagement. \n\n\n\nProgramme \n\n\n\nScene setting panel \n\n\n\nThe panel will convene private sector actors\, humanitarian organisations\, financial institutions and ministry representatives to discuss risk assessment and in humanitarian crises focusing on Sudan. \n\n\n\nFacilitated dialogue \n\n\n\nThrough facilitated dialogue and breakouts the participants will engage in further critical discussions assessing risk within their roles\, envisioned partnerships based on Dutch policy brief. \n\n\n\nIntended target group \n\n\n\nThis event is intended for private sector actors and professionals who have some experience of humanitarian contexts and/ or working in/ with Sudan. \n\n\n\nThe event is organised with the input of humanitarian organisations. Prior to the event\, we will compile a list of sources on the current situation in Sudan to inform the dialogue. \n\n\n\nMore about Critical Dialogues \n\n\n\nIn line with the Humanity Hub’s mission to support and strengthen The Hague’s peace and justice ecosystem\, we aim to create a space to foster reflection and introspection as well as collaboration and action on shared challenges and marginalised topics. By bringing together diverse actors\, we create space to examine prevailing narratives\, explore cross-sectoral solutions\, and amplify underrepresented voices. These dialogues aim to strengthen collective action and shape more inclusive and effective approaches to global challenges. \n\n\n\nIf you register for this event and later are unable to attend\, please notify us or cancel your tickets so that we can account for your absence. \n\n\n\nWe may take photographs\, videos\, and recordings at our events for promotional purposes (e.g.\, on our website and social media). If you do not wish to appear in media\, please inform the event organizers upon arrival\, and you’ll be given a distinctive tag indicating your preference.

SUMMARY:Citizen Participation and Inclusive Governance
DESCRIPTION:Sustainable development is driven by local governments that are responsive to the needs of their citizens and willing to involve them in their decision-making processes. To make that work\, citizens need to feel empowered to make their voices heard and cooperate effectively with the authorities. \n\n\n\nThis course is based on four pillars: participation\, inclusion\, social accountability and innovation. It discusses concrete examples of innovative strategies to promote transparent\, participatory\, inclusive and accountable governance. We will examine different communication tools and consider the importance of managing the expectations of citizens\, community organisations and other stakeholders. Special attention is given to ensuring all voices are heard\, including women\, youth and people with disabilities. Furthermore\, we will explore how information technologies can ensure greater accountability and transparency within government and facilitate meaningful participation. \n\n\n\nKey Information\n\n\n\nThe Citizen Participation and Inclusive Governance course is designed for professionals working on participation\, inclusion and social accountability processes. We encourage participants from national\, regional and local governments\, NGOs and donor and development organisations to apply. \n\n\n\nThe course will take place in The Hague from 07 April 2025 to 18 April 2025. \n\n\n\nLearning objectives\n\n\n\nThis course will help you: \n\n\n\nSpecify conditions and do’s and don’ts for successful citizen participation projects; \n\n\n\nDefine the conditions necessary to facilitate an open government\, including open data initiatives; \n\n\n\nAdopt an innovation mindset and learn from innovative participation and inclusion practices from different countries. \n\n\n\nDevelop actions to strengthen the inclusion of marginalised groups – such as women and youth – in decision-making processes; \n\n\n\nIdentify instruments for increasing social accountability.

SUMMARY:Conference - Innovative ways to counter terrorism: the role of transitional justice
DESCRIPTION:flowers and candles on the ground at the memorial service\n\n\n\nThe conference will address whether and how transitional justice (TJ) can be used as an innovative way to counter terrorism by analysing the Northern Ireland and Colombian cases. TJ is defined by the United Nations as “the full range of processes and mechanisms associated with a society’s attempts to come to terms with a legacy of large-scale past abuses\, in order to ensure accountability\, serve justice and achieve reconciliation.” It is based on four pillars: justice\, truth\, reparation and guarantees of non-recurrence\, which should be implemented holistically to redress human rights abuses. TJ approaches are victim-centred and aim to foster memory and reconciliation within a society.  \n\n\n\nThe objective of this conference is to generate a better understanding of TJ’s potential relevance within a counter-terrorism context and raise awareness amongst practitioners\, academics\, and policymakers on its possible uses in a countering terrorism context. Focusing on the examples of Northern Ireland and Colombia\, it aims to analyse what and how TJ mechanisms can contribute to reducing the terrorist threat in the long term\, fostering national security\, transforming victims and survivors into active counter-terrorism actors\, and promoting reconciliation.   \n\n\n\nThe conference will therefore build the necessary bridges between TJ and counter-terrorism. It will convene academic researchers from relevant disciplines and stimulate critical reflections on the interactions and divergences of TJ and counter-terrorism. Additionally\, it will engage a multi-stakeholder approach\, bringing together scholars\, practitioners\, policymakers\, and civil society and serve as a ground for networking and partnerships for future research.  \n\n\n\nThe one-day conference will take place at T.M.C. Asser Instituut and be co-organised by the Senator George J Mitchell Institute for Global Peace\, Security and Justice\, Queen’s University Belfast This link opens in a new tab. SUMMARY:Turning lessons into legacy: Strategies for documenting and sharing programme insights
DESCRIPTION:How can you ensure that valuable insights from your programmes and interventions don’t get lost but instead drive future impact? Join our SP Lab learning session on documenting and sharing lessons learned within your organisation and beyond.   \n\n\n\nWithin the volatile world of development funding\, documenting and using lessons learned is essential. Therefore\, the Partos SP Lab is organising a series of learning sessions on learning in programmes\, organisations and partnerships. During this first session we will focus on learning from programmes such as the Power of Voices Partnerships. \n\n\n\nDrawing on concrete experiences\, we will discuss practical strategies for integrating learning from the start of a programme and identify ways to communicate insights effectively to different audiences. \n\n\n\nIn this interactive session\, we discuss questions such as: \n\n\n\n\nHow do we tailor documentation and learning processes to the needs of internal teams and external stakeholders?\n\n\n\nHow can we move beyond reports and truly embed learning into our organisations?\n\n\n\nHow can we use our insights to show the impact we made and improve future practices?\n\n\n\n\nThis session will provide ample opportunity to learn from each other\, exchange insights and challenges\, and jointly identify best practices. \n\n\n\nThis is the first session of a series of learning sessions on sustained learning. In subsequent sessions we will dive deeper into embedding learning in organisations and decolonising learning in equitable partnerships.

SUMMARY:FPC - The Zainichi Korean Community\, the Division\, and Peace Movement
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the next edition in the Fireside Peace Chats (FPC) series\, titled “The Zainichi Korean Community\, the Division\, and Peace Movement”. This edition takes place with Kyungmook Kim\, a professor of peace studies and activist within Japanese civil society. The Korean Peninsula was under Japanese colonial rule for 36 years\, from 1910 to 1945. During this time\, more than 2 million Koreans lived in Japan\, and approximately 700\,000 of them remained there after the colonial period ended. After Korea gained its independence\, the Peninsula was divided at the 38th parallel\, leading to a division among the ethnic Korean minority into pro-North and pro-South factions. In this edition of FPC\, we will talk about  the complex situation of Zainichi Koreans\, examining their experiences in the diaspora and the topic of Korean unification. \n\n\n\nKyungmook Kim is professor of Global Asian Studies/Peace Studies at the \n\n\n\nSchool of Culture\, Media and Society\, Waseda University\, Japan. He \n\n\n\nworked as a programme officer at a Tokyo headquartered international \n\n\n\nNGO\, Japan International Volunteer Centre (1999–2002). He has been \n\n\n\naffiliated to Waseda University since 2016\, after teaching peace studies \n\n\n\nfor 11 years at Chukyo University\, Japan. He has published several books in Korean and in Japanese. \n\n\n\nModerator \n\n\n\nMaja Vodopivec (Leiden University College) \n\n\n\nApproximate Agenda \n\n\n\n17:15-17:30: Guest Walk-ins \n\n\n\n17:30-18:45: Discussion \n\n\n\n18:45-19:30: Informal drinks & Networking

SUMMARY:Exhibition - 'Lens on law: Edges of proximity'
DESCRIPTION:The T.M.C. Asser Instituut and the Royal Academy of Art The Hague (KABK) proudly present ‘Lens on law: Edges of proximity’ – a collective exhibition that explores the intersection of international law and visual arts. Opening on Friday 28 February 2025\, the show in West Den Haag features work by three emerging photography artists who have collaborated with international law researchers to artistically reflect on complex legal concepts. \n\n\n\nThe exhibition by three 4th year KABK photography students\, Daria Radu\, Anastasia Troshkova and Salome Erni\, tackles\, questions and translates systems of justice\, legal frameworks and institutions of juridical power. It presents three very distinct perspectives on international legal topics\, that were developed during a three-month artist in residency programme at the T.M.C. Asser Instituut\, a research centre for international and European law based in The Hague\, International City of Peace and Justice. The residency\, inspired by the Asser Institute’s research agenda “Rethinking public interests in International and European Law” and celebrating the Asser Institute’s 60th anniversary\, aims to create greater understanding and engagement with international and European law through visual storytelling. \n\n\n\nIn her work ‘[RESTRICTED]’\, Daria Radu addresses the architecture of international legal institutions in The Hague\, demystifying these spaces by highlighting their human elements and questioning their accessibility to the public. Daria was granted access to the International Criminal Court (ICC) and the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and documented the metaphorical cracks of the seemingly perfect buildings\, drawing attention to the mundane and unnoticed. While justice is destined for everyone\, international law is a construct covered in intricate layers of inaccessibility\, she concludes. \n\n\n\nAnastasia Troshkova similarly explores proximity and distance in her work ‘A Testimony of Birdwatching’\, where she investigates the role of consumer drones in modern warfare and international law. Her work delves into the visual function of small\, manoeuvrable ‘first-person view’ (FPV) drones – both as contemporary cameras and as tools for remote-controlled killing. While Anastasia previously used drones for photography\, video-making\, and entertainment\, she now focuses on footage widely shared on the internet – captured by drones shortly before their deadly attacks. Using a Polaroid camera\, she challenges the distance and the detached gaze that drones create between reality\, the operator\, and the spectator. The scenography is crafted by Boris Steiner. \n\n\n\nSalome Erni works with the visual traces of Case No. ARB/24/44\, an international arbitration between a gas company and the Netherlands which was filed in October 2024. The work not only speaks about the gas exploitation controversy in Groningen\, but also about the designed inaccessibility of investor-state dispute settlement (ISDS) arbitrations and a world where states are often complicit with companies when the revenues are high enough\, until the people pressure them to reconsider. By borrowing the language of activism\, Salome tackles the abstract postcolonial frameworks of international dispute settlement and asks the audience: Where is the public interest?  \n\n\n\nSAVE THE DATE – On Thursday 13 March\, West Den Haag\, located in the former American Embassy\, will host a closing event with the artists and speakers from the Asser Institute and the KABK to talk about their perspectives on art and international law. More information will follow soon. \n\n\n\nAbout Cultuurhaven and West Den HaagCultuurhaven is a new platform aimed at fostering connections between city residents and the established cultural field. Through collaboration and exchange across various cultural levels\, the project promotes a more inclusive\, accessible\, and dynamic arts sector in The Hague’s Museumkwartier. Cultuurhaven is organised by West Den Haag\, located in the former US embassy.  \n\n\n\nDo you have ideas or want to learn more? SUMMARY:Ensuring humanitarian accountability: Lessons in success and failure from climate-related displaced communities in Bangladesh
DESCRIPTION:In this Hum-Gov webinar\, PhD Researcher Hyeonggeun Ji and AOSED Executive Director Shamim Arfeen will discuss humanitarian accountability from the perspective of climate-related displaced communities in rural Bangladesh.  \n\n\n\nThey will discuss issues around corruption in emergency aid\, the role of village leaders in manipulating aid resources\, the problem of corruption reporting in close-knit communities\, and more besides.  \n\n\n\nWithin the communities studied\, a surer method for ensuring accountability seems to be through direct and indirect trust-based connections between displaced people and (civic) humanitarian agencies.  \n\n\n\nThe discussion will further underline the need for adopting a context-specific approach to humanitarian accountability\, the role of social networks\, and the specific complexities of ensuring accountability in rural Bangladesh. \n\n\n\nThe webinar will include a presentation by Hyeonggeun Ji\, a reflection by Shamim Arfeen and time for a Q&A with the speakers at the end.

Through this concert program\, we seek to share these harrowing stories and honor the countless victims who lost their lives due to the Russian invasion. War is the antithesis of humanity. That is why we must unite our efforts with all international partners to achieve a just peace for a democratic and sovereign Ukraine.” – Oksana Lyniv \n\n\n\nUkrainian composer Evgeni Orkin’s Five Interrupted Lullabies tells the tragic story of five infants who perished in a missile strike on Odesa in March 2024. \n\n\n\nVictoria Poleva’s Bucha. Lacrimosa for violin and orchestra captures the unspeakable horrors and war crimes committed in Bucha\, near Kyiv\, in 2022. Yuri Laniuk’s Grieving Thorn for soprano and orchestra presents the inner monologue of a thornbush that foresees its branches becoming the crown of thorns for Jesus. All Ukrainian compositions will receive their Dutch premieres during this concert. \n\n\n\nComplementing these contemporary pieces are classical works that inspire hope for the triumph of light: Mozart’s Ave verum corpus\, a serene meditation on grace and redemption\, and Beethoven’s Egmont Overture\, a powerful testament to the struggle against political oppression and the ultimate victory of freedom and self-determination. \n\n\n\nKyiv Symphony Orchestra \n\n\n\nAndrii Murza\, violin \n\n\n\nOlha Diadiv\, soprano \n\n\n\nOksana Lyniv\, conductor \n\n\n\nProgramme: \n\n\n\n\nEvgeni Orkin – “5 Interrupted Lullabies” (15 min)\n\n\n\n\n\nA symphonic portrayal of the night in March 2024 in Odesa\, when a missile attack on a residential area claimed the lives of four children and a baby. SUMMARY:Just Peace Movie Night: Porcelain War
DESCRIPTION:Join Just Peace and the Embassy of Ukraine for a special film screening of the award-winning documentary PORCELAIN WAR\, dedicated to the third anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Through the power of cinema\, we reflect on resilience\, solidarity\, and the enduring fight for freedom. This event is more than just a screening – it is a space to come together\, honour Ukraine’s struggle\, and show that support knows no borders. \n\n\n\nThe Movie – Porcelain War\n\n\n\nNominated for the 2025 Academy Awards\, this incredible documentary will land in the city of Peace and Justice as a last stop before the Oscars\, to share the incredible story of resilience through art and marking the third anniversary of the start of the war in Ukraine. \n\n\n\nAmidst the chaos and destruction of the brutal Russian invasion of Ukraine\, three artists defiantly find inspiration and beauty as they defend their culture and their country. In a war waged by professional soldiers against ordinary civilians\, Slava Leontyev\, Anya Stasenko and Andrey Stefanov choose to stay behind\, armed with their art\, their cameras and\, for the first time in their lives\, their guns. Despite daily shelling\, Anya finds resistance and purpose in her art\, Andrey takes the dangerous journey to get his young family to safety abroad\, and Slava becomes a weapons instructor for ordinary people who have become unlikely soldiers. As the war intensifies\, Andrey picks up his camera to film their story\, and on tiny porcelain figurines\, Anya and Slava capture their idyllic past\, uncertain present and hope for the future. \n\n\n\nCo-directed by Leontyev and Brendan Bellomo\, with extraordinary footage from first-time cinematographer Stefanov\, Porcelain War embodies the passion and fight that only an artist can put back into the world when it’s crumbling around them. \n\n\n\nProgram and Highlights\n\n\n\n16:30 -17:30 Welcome Reception\, Ukrainian Bites and Networking \n\n\n\n17.30-19.15 Movie Screening \n\n\n\n19.15-19.45 Dialogue \n\n\n\n20.00 Event Ends \n\n\n\nOpening remarks by The Ukranian Chargé d’affaires Anatolii Solovei. \n\n\n\nAdditional remarks: \n\n\n\n\nJill Wilkinson\, Managing Director of the Hague Humanity Hub\n\n\n\nRepresentatives from the Municipality of the Hague\n\n\n\n\nDialogue \n\n\n\nJust Peace Movie Nights are an opportunity to bring meaningful themes of peace and Justice to life in the Hague and to reflect on important issues together. \n\n\n\nThe movie screening will be followed by a 30-minute dialogue\, featuring the perspectives of the protagonists of the movie\, the filmmakers and experts working in the field of protecting art and cultural identity in times of war. \n\n\n\nSpeakers to be confirmed as they are set to travel from Ukraine for the occasion.

Hosted at The Hague Humanity Hub\, this is the place for you to get away from your busy schedule and enjoy after-hours with purposeful conversations. \nWhat can you expect? \nCome to the Hub on Tuesday\, February 18th\, between 17:00 and 19:00 for a drink (or two) and meet professionals who are working towards a more peaceful and just world. During that time\, you will hear about the inspiring projects and successes of fellow community members. \nWho is it for? \nIf you are working in a professional capacity towards a more peaceful and just world\, you are welcome to join us\, whatever your role and your sector. Come to the Community Drinks\, relax\, and join this vibrant community committed to making our world fairer and more just – one connection at a time. \nWho are the spotlight speakers? \nWhite Helmets Foundation \nThe White Helmets Foundation was founded in 2013 in Syria by a diverse group of volunteers. The aim was to respond to aerial and land bombings and reduce the gap left by the Syrian regime’s withdrawal of basic government services like firefighting and healthcare. The group of volunteers was expanded to 3300 female and male volunteers and strives to save civilian lives and help the communities recover from the impact of the war. This presentation will be given by Diana Khayyata. \nTurquoise Mountain \nTurquoise Mountain supports artisans where their traditions are under threat. The organisation started in 2006 with reviving the Old City of Kabul by clearing it of rubble to reveal the magnificent historic neighbourhood. Today\, with its Institute of Afghan Arts and Architecture at the heart of the neighbourhood\, it trains the next generation of artisans by connecting them to international markets\, which also brings back income to the community. The presentation will be given by Nathalie Paarlberg. \nBoth organisations are going to present examples of the work they do\, challenges they had to overcome but also want to know from their audience what their experiences have been in dealing with change. Finally\, both are going to give a call to action to inspire the community! \n  \nFor any inquiries\, please contact programming@humanityhub.net \n  \n\n\n\n\n\nREGISTER This link opens in a new tab

SUMMARY:Webinar: The role of faith leaders in peace-building
DESCRIPTION:Interfaith Harmony Week is observed each year during the first week of February after it was first suggested by King Abdullah II of Jordan to the United Nations 15 years ago and adopted by the UN General Assembly. During this week\, various governments\, NGOs\, faith leaders and others use this week to promote goodwill and harmony between different religions. \n\n\n\nTherefore\, The London Story\, together with the Indian American Muslim Council (IAMC) convene faith leaders from across the world to share their experiences using their roles to address religiously charged conflicts in their communities. They will speak on their experiences\, the conflicts they face(d) in their local settings\, and the continued challenges to interfaith harmony there. We also invite academics and members of civil society to discuss challenges to interfaith harmony and the complex threats posed to freedom of religion or belief in various contexts. The event ends with a round of Q&A from the audience. \n\n\n\nAll are welcome; the choice of timing and format was made consciously to accommodate a diverse audience with different experiences with religiously motivated or inflamed conflicts\, peace-building\, and interfaith dialogue. Are these topics of interest to you? Please join and share with others! A recording will also be made available after the event.

SUMMARY:Benjamin Ferencz Lecture - Sights\, sounds\, and sensibilities of atrocity prosecutions: the sensory experience of justice
DESCRIPTION:Justice for massive human rights abuses is deeply intertwined with our sensory experiences—what we see\, hear\, touch\, taste\, and smell. These senses shape how atrocities are perceived\, remembered\, condemned\, and ultimately judged by legal systems across the world. From the sights of courtroom proceedings to the sounds of witness testimony\, the sensory dimensions of justice play a crucial role in the prosecution and condemnation of atrocities. However\, the role of these sensory experiences is often overlooked in discussions about legal accountability and the pursuit of justice. \n\n\n\nThis lecture and panel discussion will focus on the ways in which justice\, human rights abuses\, and sensory experience intersect\, as explored in Sights\, Sounds\, and Sensibilities of Atrocity Prosecutions\, edited by Mark Drumbl and Caroline Fournet (Brill | Nijhoff). The conversation will explore how different societies and legal systems have conceptualised and experienced justice for atrocity crimes throughout history\, from the post-World War II tribunals to contemporary international courts\, and will delve into how what we perceive through our senses affects the legal processes that address large-scale human rights violations and atrocities.  \n\n\n\nSpeakers: \n\n\n\n\nProf. Mark A.
